never looked so good...
Prep for our 2016 pre-Thanksgiving dinner. Pork shoulder (some people call it Pork Butt. Anatomically incorrect but still delicious).

BREAD,BOOTS AND BOXES
Breakfast followed by a drizzly walk. There's a picture to be painted -or something to be eaten - just about everywhere.
WHO CARES ABOUT COBBLESTONES?
Broken ankle be damned!! The ancient Roman roads are smoother than Petaluma's potholes, the bridges are for walking (not traffic jams) and the reward is always some new vista of converging angles, buildings holding up other buildings and SILENCE. I think the sound of water is actually louder here in Lagrasse because there is not the chatter and clatter of modern life.
Re: Two-two-two-two to Toulouse
Absolutely incredible where a little airplane hop will get you these days. Wonderful adventures!

Two-two-two-two to Toulouse
Flying, driving, traveling back at least a thousand years to the Middle Ages, hiking to the top of Chateau du Termes then snack atop the fortifications.

SF Opera in the Park
Summer in San Francisco: getting and wearing down in Golden Gate Park. In the great traditions of those hippies, a free concert for 20,000 people announcing the upcoming SFOpera Season, a tribute to 9/11 and a sing-along. Cold, but fun.

Bastille Day Dinner
In the face of all the unpredictable, intentionally alarming events in the world - there is always time to celebrate friends, food and simply getting together. Thanks to Stephanie and her Water Street Bistro staff for starting and keeping up traditions. These precious little islands of beauty, pause and remembrance always make the swim worthwhile.

BAPTISTRY STRIPES?
Or maybe inspired by the Siena Cathedral??
Heading back to US of A and cooler climes after a hot-but-magical summer in Florence and Sienna (with a side and sockless trip to Cinque Terre).
The Italians have a cookie called "Bruti ma Buoni" - ugly but good. I'm thinking so many things could be described that way - or the opposite. Something to try out on our re-entry.
