In solidarity in Venice

In solidarity with workers at Kodak, the folks at Harry's Bar ask that people NOT take photos using a cell phone. So, along with the ghosts of ex-pats, artists, literati and gliterati of Venice, Chuck drank and drew.

Cicchetti = Venitian Tapas

Golden wine from Venissa goes excellently with creamed cod, tomatoes + roasted peaches + basil, ceviche, chickpea pancakes with mango + melon, humus with black olive + micro herbs, tuna tartare and marinated eggplant. All this at the tratoria ( sister to the restaurant) on the tiny island of Mazzorbo!

It's not just "Many hands make light work" it's "Many laughs maka lotsa pasta" - with Giuseppina's help we made pici, tomato sauce, bruschetta, tuscan chicken and chocolate salami.

Followed by a glorious sunset spritz.

Twilight on the Terrace

Before the rain, thunder and lightening storm, there was a flurry of sketching, painting, instructing followed by wine, antipasto and stories all sliding into supper and satisfaction.

Look closely

At the feet of the master, high atop a town in Siena. We were told that this is the goddess of gratitude.

Emilio Frati

After touring the Cathedral in Siena, we met a darling 84 year old marble master who converted is garage into a museum of his work. He's won four "medalgia" - one from the Vatican Museum. What a living treasure!

Not a villa - a palazzo

Our friends' "finestra sul porto" (window on the port) overlooks the harbor of Genoa. Pope Innocent VIII was born here. They are living their dream here.

It’s not even Monday

If you live in a palazzo you can't dry your close outside on a clothesline. This is for the lesser Genovese and Napoli.

The paper connection

Even the chandelier.

Right out the gate

Not even ten steps into Europe, we encounter the gateway drug to ART. Airports have a plethora of duty free stores, but art supplies outnumber T-shirts and postcards.
Sketching replaces cell phone addiction.

The Remains of the Days

NOT a hurricane. The aftermath of Sonoma Plein Air 2024. The 35 invited artists painted all week and raised money for art in the Sonoma Valley Schools. So far, in twenty years they've raised $2 million. Lots of work. A very good cause.

Steps and stairs

Stracciatella (chocolate chip gelato) is easily burned off one step at a time.
